Möbius: The Story Behind our most in Demand Wedding Bands

At McCaul we strive to make unique handmade wedding rings which offer an alternative to the classic styles of wedding bands widely available on the high street.

The Möbius rings have proven to be one of our most in demand styles in recent months so we wanted to share a little more about the inspiration and meaning behind these bestselling pieces.

These sculptural, twisting wedding rings take their form from the Möbius strip; a mathematical object, said to have been first discovered in 1858, but has been found to appeared as far back as Roman mosaics from the third century.

In essence a Möbius strip, band, or loop is a three dimensional structure, the surface of which is formed by attaching the ends of a strip of paper, our in our case metal or wax, together with a half-twist.

This mathematical concept has been mooted to symbolise infinity. A sentiment which lends itself beautifully to jewellery, and wedding bands in particular, which should be cherished and worn long into the future.

The best selling Möbius wedding ring can be made in 18 carat white, yellow and rose gold or platinum. Choose from a mirror polished finish, or soft brushed satin finish, which emphasises the colour of rose and yellow gold.

We have two variations, a version with a slow continuous twist which slowly twists the entire way around the ring, and a more minimal version with a top twist, which twists only at the top of the ring.

The Möbius wedding rings can be made in a variety of widths to suit men or women. We can also add a row of lush diamonds for some added sparkle. You can find out more about this mathematical structure here.
